myrtleshine was a spitfire. a she-cat who would speak her mind whenever she wanted. a warrior who would sit in the sun and simply glow. she could catch the toughest prey, fight the biggest behemoth despite her size. she was gorgeous, she was brave, and nothing could stop her.
at least, that was what myrtlekit was told. what the caretakers failed to mention was that myrtleshine, his mother, the she-cat whom he was named after, was also old. apparently, so much so that when kitting myrtlekit, she passed during the process.
myrtlekit was never told this though. he found his mother to be the coolest, and was honored to be named after her!! when he would ask where she went, the caretakers would chuckle nervously. they would then tell him stories about how myrtleshine set off from the clans to find her own adventures amongst the stars. that was something that myrtlepaw found especially cool! his ma could walk in the stars? how epic!
as myrtlekit grew older, and the questions of his mother's whereabouts stopped, he somewhat...forgot about myrtleshine. of course she lived on in his memories, she was the coolest cat myrtlekit knew. he was glad to be named after her!
however, he just started to see her as less of a mother and more of...a story.
myrtlekit knew that kits came with families. he knew this by observing his fellow kits in the nursery. they came with mothers, fathers - sometimes sisters and brothers! so, yeah - maybe he was a little sad that he didn't come with any. he was kinda lonely.
but despite not having any sort of traditional family, myrtlekit still grew up with cats he looked up to! specifically, the caretakers that watched over him! they told him all kinds of fun stories, and would play games with him when he was feeling sad! maybe it wasn't as fun as having siblings, but he didn't care! he was just kinda happy they looked over him and cared for him.
when he was a kit, he wasn't too sure what to think of in terms of being an apprentice. he would think back to the stories of myrtleshine, wondering just exactly what it meant to be a warrior.
but as the day for his apprentice ceremony approached faster and faster, myrtlekit began to feel determined. he wanted to live on and show he was worthy or myrtleshine's name! he wanted to train and hunt and show everyone just how cool he could be!
as he looked on into the apprentice's den, he would sheepishly admit that...he wanted to make friends, too.

when myrtlekit was officially named myrtlepaw, a rushingclan warrior apprentice, he was nothing but ecstatic. no matter how hard the caretakers tried to get him looking neat and tidy for his ceremony, he somehow would make it all messy again through sheer willpower alone. he was finally going to be able to walk out of camp! he would be able to catch whatever he wanted! he could go swimming!!
he was especially excited to train with his mentor, (tba) -- they seemed like the coolest cat in the entirety of rushingclan!
